a.  Description of a situation

Globalization contributed to the rapid development of Singapore, especially in the field of technology. Recently, many new smart phone were released, for instance, iPhone 5s/c, Samsung Note 3.  The insufficient  store from retailers shows that many people have brought the new phones.

b.  Identification of a problem

Globalization > Rapid development of technology> Consumers heavily rely on electronic devices> Increase in electronic waste

 Electronic waste > water, soil pollution > adverse effects on human health, such as inflammation and oxidative stress – precursors to cardiovascular disease, DNA damage and possibly cancer.

Recycle
Panasonic leads e-waste recycling program in Singapore

Panasonic has partnered with the South East Community Development Council (CDC), National Environment Agency (NEA), electrical and electronics retailer Best Denki, e-waste recycler Cimelia and public waste collector SembWaste to provide an integrated, convenient recycling platform covering different avenues, from the community to retailer level. 

Commercial activity
when new electronic devices are released, companies such as Apple, Samsung can launch the program like "trade in program". When consumers buy the new phone, they can use their old phone to make a discount on their new, return the old phone to the companies. Companies can reuse the old electronic devices for other purposes.

d.  Evaluation of the solution

Recycling is never a effective way to reduce the e-waste partly because the general populations are just not aware of the negative impact on the e-waste. Singapore government should hold more activities, which related to the e-waste, let more people to know the bad influence of e-waste, raise people's awareness on this. So, recycling program can work more efficiently.

Thesis:
Despite of great convenience that globalization has brought to the people, especially in the area of technology, the amount of electronic waste has also increased tremendously with that, which has the detrimental effects to the environment and human beings.

Introduction:
Globalization has enriched the world scientifically and culturally and benefited many people economically. The speed of the technology development is unprecedentedly fast in today's globalized world. In the countries like Singapore, people are heavily relying on electronic devices such as laptops, mobile phone, computers and so on. They have already become part of our life. However, another issue has also been brought out, electronic waste.
